How do we do this?
Simple - we use a few methods to ensure you, our valued site user, doesn't have to pay. These include:
- Ad supported - an ad is shown when you run the software. These are carefully designed to be unobtrusive and relevant and the advertiser pays to show them.
- Donationware - you have the full unrestricted version but are asked to recognise the effort which went into creating it by thanking the author with a donation.
- Trial - some downloads may be "lite" versions which, although functional, are not as feature rich as their commercial versions
- Freeware - some authors just love to show off and give away their work!
- Abandonware - some downloads are for older models or for whatever reason have been left in the public domain and are no longer actively marketed.
- Component - sometimes a full system is launched consisting of various components, some but not all of which are free. You might see the handset software doesn't cost anything but in order to fully use it a website registration or payment is required.
Of course, when we say they are free we mean we will not charge you. Your download may involve data transfers over the air for which your carrier may charge you, but thats the same as say Google searches being free on your desktop browser but your ISP charging you on your plan for the data transfers.
